Major disappointment

My wife and I decided to visit East Africa for the first time. We loved Capetown then headed off to Dar es Salaam. On the day of our tour to Zanzibar, we were so excited as like many travellers, we were enamoured with all the tales of this place. A driver picked us up at the hotel and from there, the tour went downhill. He dropped us off at the ferry to Zanzibar and there was this sea of humanity. There were no signs. We finally found our way into the ferry and found out that our tickets were stamped economy even though we bought business class. After bribing a ferry worker to sit in business class, we were on our way. Finally got to Zanzibar and couldn’t find our guide. He had no sign. Hell continues. We were taken into a spice farm as part of the tour. Now this is a private tour so we told our guide how we would like our day to look. He totally ignored us. We spent an inordinate amount of time trudging through bush to small spices. 2.5 hours later, we were off to Prison Island. I’m 63 yrs old and didn’t realize that I’d have to go into the water and climb onto a boat soaking wet! I wasn’t sure we were going to get there because the engine on the boat was on it’s last gasp. Prison Island was ok but back into the water and climb into the boat we go. Lunch. The most unhygienic and filthy place I’ve even eaten. I won’t go on here as it will turn your stomach. We then walked around Stonetown for a bit even though my wife had told our guide Said, that we wanted more time there. He totally ignored us! Back to the ferry again and yes, had to bribe another ferry worker. Arriving in Dat, the excitement continues. We get off the ferry and again, it’s a sea of humanity. We’re supposed to locate our driver who we had only met for a few minutes in the morning. By the grace of God, we finally connected. Did I mention that one day tour cost us $C1250!!! It was a total waste of money. Our guide was subpar, the tour was poorly planned and terribly executed. Please stay away from this tour and guide!!

Dear Mr Raplh, Many thanks for your thoughts and apologies for inconvenience. We are aware and regret that Zanzibar doesn't have the infrastructure comparing to that of Capetown. Zanzibar is still 'Organic' and 'Virgin' and we have to accept the way it is. As far as your tour is concerned, we find out that in this tour the economy class tickets were included and not business and the lunch provides was actually complementary at one of the very famous restaurant in zanzibar named as "Lukman" - you can check the reviews your self. However, we still appreciate your thoughts which are very important to us as we always strive to improve our quality of the tour.
