Ghosts & Gravestones Frightseeing Tour boards at the end of the Long Wharf Marriott at 200 Atlantic Avenue. Guests are required to check in 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.

This activity will end right where it started.
Boston’s original “frightseeing” tour is an evening of fear and fun. Climb aboard the Trolley of the Doomed for an experience unlike any other. Uncover Boston’s darkest secrets and hear the stories of those lost souls who many locals believe still wander the streets and alleys of this historic town.

Learn about some of the city’s most sinister characters, from Albert DeSalvo, better known as the Boston Strangler, to Jane Toppan, aka Jolly Jane, one of the most prolific serial killers in American history.

Walk through two of the oldest burial grounds in Boston, including Old Granary, the final resting place for many notable Revolutionary War-era patriots like Samuel Adams, John Hancock and Robert Treat Paine, plus Paul Revere and the five victims of the Boston Massacre. Also, visit the site of the biggest grave-robbing scandal in New England’s history.

Come with an open mind and see if any ghosts appear. It’s a ride on the dark side.

Stop At:
Ghosts & Gravestones
Step aboard the trolley of the doomed and join your host, a 17th-century grave digger, cursed with a sentence of eternal damnation. This wretched creature is doomed to travel the streets of Boston and relay the stories of the unfortunate souls he encountered and the macabre events he had been witness to during his purgatory. Hear about Boston's most sinister characters - from the Angel of Death to the king of all killers - the Boston Strangler. Learn about all the haunts that call the "Hub" their home. But that's not all! Step inside two of the oldest burying grounds in Boston for a walking tour you will never forget. Learn the significance of much of the imagery found in these 17th century burial grounds and the famous and not so famous (but even more interesting) occupants therein. Visit Copp's Hill Burying Ground in the North End, nestled atop the tallest point in one of Boston's oldest historic districts. Here you will visit the final resting place of Cotton Mather, a man famous for his "intimate" involvement with the Salem Witch Trials. Then to the Granary Burying Ground where you will visit the final resting places of many of the famous heroes of the American Revolution including John Hancock, Paul Revere and Samuel Adams. Remember that half of the tour is walking, so comfortable shoes are recommended (so you don't become "dead" on your feet)!

Would recommend. Our guides were upbeat and interesting. The only thing that would have made it better was adding in some jump scares.

Nice way to see things you would normally not know about! The guides were knowledgeable and quick with the bad jokes, and were happy to answer any questions. Some walking but totally manageable. We had a great time.

Guide was rude, especially when asked about a location mentioned in tour description highlights. “I don’t do that on MY tour.”

Tour was fun. It was a good tour and we enjoyed seeing Boston at night on the trolley. It wasn’t scary but it was fun. The size of the group was pretty large. Maybe 35-40 people.

It's got corny jokes galore. We had fun. Some walking is required to get to graveyards. Recommend doing it when it's dark out. If you don't like cheesy jokes- this is not for you.

Good but gimmicky
Paula_C
, Aug 2022
Guides were great story tellers but would of preferred to have more walking/ stops and a bit less gimmicky. We did a similar tour in NOLA and you believed that the guide lived in the witch/vampire subculture. The characters made it hard to know what was story and what was fact

Average to Good but not Good to excellent

My daughter and I were pretty excited for this tour but it didn’t meet all my expectations. I read that you visit the Samuel Adams grave but all they did was point it out from across the cemetery yard. I asked our guide if I could run over and snap a picture and she told me no that we have to stay together. She told me it’s on the main part and I can come back later myself and see it through the fence. True, but I paid for this tour that specifically stated we would visit the Adams grave. Our guide was funny. She was full of energy and I learned some cool stuff about my favorite author, Charles Dickens . All in all, I wouldn’t take the tour again. Once is definitely enough. It’s not scary except for the facts about the Boston Strangler.

Tour was fun and very informative. At times it seemed to drag on but overall it was good. Be prepared to walk up a very steep hill. The cemetery after the climb is well worth it.
