The basics

Built in 1929 by architect William Mooser in Spanish Revival style, the Santa Barbara Courthouse is a working government building. Despite its daily function as a working courthouse, visitors are encouraged to come and explore the building and its landscaped gardens. Trace the history of California in a visual way with a visit to the Mural Room.

Climb to the top of the tower—known as El Mirador—for excellent views over the city, and see one of the last operational Seth Thomas Tower Clocks in the US as well as a mural depicting the art of timekeeping at the Bisno Schall Clock Gallery in the tower. The courthouse is a regular stop on walking tours of historic Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara Scavenger Hunt Adventure
This was so fun! We had to skip a few, but that’s ok! Only suggestion, if you walk the shuttle route (like covid times), you don’t have to walk all the way up to Sola st, because you pass your next clue on the way and have to come back. Loved it!!

Santa Barbara Trolley Tour
It was a nice ride through the area with a guide who talked about the local history and highlights. There is parking on site at the Visitor’s Center along with a clean restroom and a place to purchase a few snacks for the ride.

Santa Barbara Electric Bike Tour
Our host Mike was very knowledgeable, well-informed about Santa Barbara today, and historical events that have helped shape the city into and its surroundings into what it is today. We loved the fact that he was accommodating, flexible, and all 3 of us felt welcomed and comfortable riding around the waterfront and through the city to get a local's perspective and the rich history of Santa Barbara. Thanks again Mike!

I loved that this tour had the perfect mixture of walking, local historical sites and delicious food. Plenty of shade to keep you out of the sun most of the time even in July. Our guide Ken was friendly and very knowledgeable of the area.

Santa Barbara Trolley Tour
We had a really fun experience and the tour guide was excellent. I can appreciate that we had a native to the city and he was very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this fun tour with interesting little facts sprinkled in between. Santa Barbara is pretty low key and I wanted to see the city in slow motion, which was fabulous!
