National WWII Museum

945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70130

The Basics

Opened in 2000, and originally called the National D-Day Museum, the National WWII Museum takes an immersive look at wartime life and the input the United States Armed Forces had in the Allied victory. Visitors have the chance to dine in 1940s style at BB’s Stage Door Canteen, see restored fighter planes and tanks, and even experience a thrilling ride on Lake Pontchartrain onboard a restored PT boat, the same type of craft that was used in the Normandy landings.

If you’re touring independently, prebook admission so you can skip the line upon arrival. For an extended day trip, you can combine a visit to the museum with a citywide private tour that includes air-conditioned transport.

Hours of fun and enjoyment

The National WWII Museum Campus Pass Ticket New Orleans
We spent almost 4 hours in the most beautifully done museum we have ever seen, and could have easily spent more time. Our children are 9, 14, and 16 and they enjoyed every minute of it. My husband, a veteran, could have easily spent another 4 hours in awe. The staff were helpful and friendly. The facility was clean. We absolutely loved our time at the WWII museum.

The National WWII Museum Campus Pass + Beyond All Boundaries 4-D Film
The 4D movie was very informative and entertaining! I wish we would have gotten a map of the museum, it would have helped us navigate around. The staff around the museum has a ton of information, be sure to talk to them too.

The realities of war

I like the way the story follows reality. This museum didn’t glorify the war but gave a realistic view to the heart and soul quenching reality of war. Everyone there had a sense of somber reality and I personally left with a new respect and the highest regard for every man woman and child that had to endure that time on our history.

Wow, not to be missed in New Orleans!

I think the best thing about this exhibition is the way they approach it holistically. I had considered the European Theater and the plight of the Jews and the Pacific theater, but all at different times. This museum brings it all together in an emotional roller-coaster so that you can really feel the enormity of this world war.

Watching my husband see the exhibits. He said he could spend a week at the museum. The 4-D film was a must-see, it really gave you the reality of it all. I cried.

Beautiful somber presentation of the beast of a war. Settings are well done. Facility could use more informative signage.
