Kafue National Park

The Basics

While well established, Kafue National Park maintains a remote feel no longer found in many of Southern Africa’s more crowded parks. The park offers numerous wildlife viewing opportunities, ranging from game drives and boat safaris to walking and canoeing adventures. Visitors who make the trip to the remote park should consider booking a multi-day safari and staying overnight in tent camps or safari lodges. An overnight stay lets you join night game drives (ideal for spotting leopards), multi-day walking safaris, and early morning excursions when wildlife is at its most active.

When to Get There

The dry season—from June through October—is the best time to visit the park. Dry weather enables you to access more of the park and wildlife is typically easiest to spot during this time. During the rainy months, much of the park is inaccessible. However, you can still access some lodges that are open year-round and accessible by plane.
