The Basics

While Mendenhall Glacier can be visited independently from Juneau, save the hassle of driving on Alaska's icy roads and opt for a combo tour to the glacier instead. Such tours typically combine Mendenhall with whale-watching experiences, glacier hikes, and salmon bakes, and include guides and round-trip transportation. Adventurous travelers can also paddle down the river in a raft, kayak, or canoe to see the glacier up-close or visit Mendenhall on a guided hiking and ice exploration.

Great for the family
Had a great time. We had our 1 year old with us and the crew was super accommodating! We got to see a few whales while out there. We did go toward the end of season so we weren’t sure we were going to get to see any but the crew assured us we would. Would recommend for sure!

Round-Trip Mendenhall Glacier Shuttle Service
Great narrative from Dave on the way to Mendenhall Glacier. Learned a lot about Juneau and its culture. Gave a lot of tips on what to see at the glacier. Dave was an excellent driver and we were fortunate to have him on our way back to the pier. Buses are clean and next time we go to Juneau I'll be sure to book this excursion again!

Juneau Highlights and Mendenhall Glacier Tour
Juneau is a nice little city, and the tour guide did it justice. Mendenhall glacier, with the lake and waterfall was beautiful, we even got to see a rainbow over the glacier.

Up close and natural in Juneau

Premier Whale Watch and Mendenhall Glacier Combo
The naturists and captain were very informative. We had an amazing experience seeing both an Orca and several humpbacks including Mom and baby who cruised right to the boat. Alaska weather was to be expected but the rain and cloud cover did not deter the wildlife. Only recommendation is to allow for more time at the Mendenhall glacier.

Juneau Highlights and Mendenhall Glacier Tour
Seeing Mendenhall Glacier was nice. The driver talked about himself and tried to sell us his photographs and cds. A little info of the area. Could have been more about Juneau and less about him. Weather was beautiful which the tour cannot take credit for!!

Yes we were able to see whales and take pictures. Could have been a little longer, the staff were great.

World Famous Glaciers

If you've got a taste for glacier exploration, consider adding one of the world's other most impressive glaciers to your itinerary. Argentina's Perito Moreno is a classic, situated within the sweeping Patagonia National Park; Iceland's Vatnajökull is among the world's largest glaciers; and New Zealand's Franz Josef Glacier is a favorite for adventure travelers.
